NEW DWELLING | PALM BEACH 2005

This new family home was designed to be part of the traditional vernacular of its surrounding beachscape on Sydney’s northern peninsula.

Designed as a holiday home for family and friends, the reverse brick veneer construction allows for the external simplicity of weatherboard whilst maintaining an internal brick lining for the benefits of thermal mass. Polished concrete floors on the lower ground give a functional finish.

The traditional design layout of a house was reversed, pushing the Living spaces to the upper levels in order to take full advantage of the view to the ocean. To avoid noise transference to the sleeping areas below, it is constructed with a suspended concrete slab at first floor level. The planning also ensures a variety of private spaces in which one can escape and relax, in all weather conditions. Curl up with a good book or merely enjoy watching the movement of the surf.
