ALTERATIONS AND ADDITIONS | MOSMAN 2013
On a large block in Mosman, we renovated an imposing Federation Queen Anne home. The property has two street frontages, the street address and the rear lane. We decided to give the existing Heritage dwelling a restoration externally and renovated internally and then merely linked a new extension to house the additional accommodation to the rear thereby not impacting on the streetscape. The existing house was sited towards the side northern boundary and therefore we kept the wide southern boundary setback right through to the rear lane.
This initial concept went against the traditional full width extension to then open onto a pool in a garden setting. The garaging would then be beyond on the rear lane. By lengthening the house on one side of the block we could connect internally to the garage on the rear lane. This massing worked well and resulted in a far more functional layout and maintain a large garden setting.
